Course Syllabus

Welcome to Paced Algebra I Part B!!! I’m Ms. Boarts and I will be your teacher for this class. We will be learning multiple algebraic concepts such as exponents, roots, polynomials, inequalities, and factoring. Some of these topics you may have already seen and others you may have never heard of before but I hope you all learn and understand the topics covered in this class. I’m currently teaching at West Shamokin High School so if any of you would ever like to see me for help/tutoring in person this is where you can find me.

I would like to cover at least two sections a week in this class. I will be posting notes and homework to go along with those notes. There will be other resources posted every so often such as instructional videos. Every week I will post an announcement of what is open for you to view and what is due; an email will also be sent with the same announcement so if you don’t see it in CANVAS you will receive an email. If you have any trouble viewing the notes or homework please let me know!!!!!

Since you will be taking the Keystone Algebra I exam in May, there are some topics not included in the curriculum that I will cover randomly throughout the year. These topics will help you review/learn some of the material you will see on the Keystone. You will be required to complete one assignment for these topics but you will not be tested on them.

Grading: I will be using Skyward to record all grades for assignments and tests so if you would like to check your grade please do so on Skyward. As far as assignments go, each week I will open notes and homework to you at midnight Sunday night. The homework will be due by Friday at 3:00 pm every week. This allows you all week to take a look at the notes and work on the homework and still be able to contact me with questions. I will also be posting tests occasionally; there will be no assignments due that week other than a review.

Please post all assignments in CANVAS. Also, please keep your work organized; I don’t want to have to look all over your paper for your answers. There is no penalty for turning in late assignments, HOWEVER, please keep up with the schedule for your own benefit. Math is not an easy subject so don’t put off the work and hope to get it all done before the end of the 9 weeks!!!

If you need any help please contact me!!! My email is klboarts@asd.k12.pa.us. I’m at school from 7:15-2:45 and I check my email often so this is the best way to contact me. If you happen to email me after 2:45 I do have a school iPad that I use at home therefore I should see it within a few hours. Again, I’m at West Shamokin High School so if you go to West Shamokin you can stop by my room (20) or if you live close and would like to stop in between 2:20 and 2:45 for some help that’s fine too just let me know.

I hope this class goes smoothly for you and that we have a great year!!
