[MODULE 2] Summary

Now that you've read and reviewed the materials in MODULE 2: Build Your Awesome Assignments and Activities, remember the following take-aways:

When it comes to creating activities...

  • First, decide on the TYPE of activity. Is it an assignment, a discussion or a quiz?
  • Second, determine if it will graded or un-graded activity.

The differences between graded and ungraded activities are...

  • All graded assignments, discussions and quizzes will have a gradebook column.
  • All graded assignments, discussions and quizzes will be listed under the ASSIGNMENTS tab.

When it comes to quizzes...

  • Remember that all assessments are created using the quiz tool -- whether you call it test, exam, survey, evaluation, mid-term, quiz, etc.
  • There are 2 types of quizzes --- QUIZ and SURVEY
  • Ungraded quizzes are called 'practice quizzes'
  • Surveys can be set to anonymous.

There are 3 ways to add questions to a quiz (or survey):

  1. Build a question from scratch from the question tab.
  2. Copy a question from an existing question bank.
  3. Randomly generate questions from a question bank (i.e. "Select 10 questions at 1 point each from the Chapter 4 question bank).

When it comes to designing discussions...

  • From the DISCUSSIONS tab, you can pin, delete, or close discussions for comments.
  • From the DISCUSSIONS settings, you can customize discussion options (threaded, unthreaded, etc.)
  • From the COURSE SETTINGS, you can determine student experience as it relates to discussions.

There are 2 benefits for grouping assignments...

  1. You can weight grades based on groups
  2. You can create grading criteria within a group

That's it!

You should be ready for the [MODULE 2] Quiz.
